Characters with levels in heroic classes (Expert, Scoundrel, Scout, Soldier, or Prestige Classes) gain Hero Points. A level 1 character has 5 hero points. At each level your hero point count resets to 5 + (One-half your character level). Taking a level in a prestige class instead resets it to 6 + (One-half your character level).
USING HERO POINTS
On your turn, you may spend a Hero Point as a free action to roll 1d6 and add the result to a single attack roll, skill check, or ability check. You can do this once per round. At 8th level, when you spend a Hero Point, you instead roll 2d6 and take the best die result as your bonus; at 15th level you roll 3d6 and take the best die result as your bonus.
Some talents, spells, powers, and nanite abilities require Hero Points to activate, or allow you to spend Hero Points to enhance their function in some way. In addition, if you are have spellcasting, psionics, or nanite abilities, you may spend 1 Hero Point as a swift action to return a single spent spell, power, or nanite ability to your active suite of spells, powers, or nanite abilities. This may not be used to return an incantation, true incantation, or nanospell to your active suite.
If you are reduced to 0 hit points and would be killed, you can spend a Hero Point as a reaction to avoid death and instead fall unconscious.
Unless noted otherwise, you can only spend one Hero Point per round.
