There are ‘contractors’ – those who have entered into a pact with a spirit, and then there are Contractors – those entered into that pact and learned to use those abilities with such ease that it seemed more like they simply knew what they were doing.  Contractors have an exceptionally close tie to their bound spirit, and are correspondingly more powerful than a run-of-the-mill spirit binder.

REQUIREMENTS

To qualify to become a contractor, a character must fulfill the following criteria.

  • Minimum Level: 7th
  • Feats: Mage Talent for Spirit Binding

GAME RULE INFORMATION

Contractors have the following game statistics.

HIT POINTS

At each level, contractors gain 1d8 hit points + their Constitution modifier.

CLASS FEATURES

The following are features of the contractor prestige class.

DEFENSE BONUSES

At 1st level, you gain a +3 class bonus to your Will defenses and +3 to either your Fortitude or your Reflex defense (your choice).

TALENTS

At every odd-numbered level (1st, 3rd, 5th, and so on), you select a talent. The talent can be selected from the following Magic talent trees:

  • Any Bound Spirit: General Magic, Magic Item, Healer
  • Air, Earth, Electromagnetism, Fire, Ice, Water Bound Spirit: Elementalism
  • Darkness, Light Bound Spirit: Shadowmage
  • Animal, Nature Bound Spirit: Shamanism
  • Gravity Bound Spirit: Telekinesis

CLOSE BOND

You are treated as 2 levels higher for the purpose of the granted abilities of your contracted spirit.

MAGE TECHNIQUE

At every even-numbered level (2nd, 4th, 6th, and so on), you select a Mage Technique.

GUARDIAN SPIRIT

Your contracted spirit is a little now more active in aiding you.  When you use the Search Your Feelings application of the Magery skill, you can instead choose to consult your contracted spirit.  When you do so, you learn more than just whether the results of your actions will be favorable or unfavorable; you also learn the nature of any immediate consequences, including potential encounters, and whether or not certain actions will bring you closer to a specific goal.

EMPOWERING SPIRIT

You gain one bonus Hero Point each day (available after you rest for at least 6 hours). This bonus Hero Point can only be used to improve a Spell or activate a Mage technique or Mage secret.  If you do not spend your bonus Hero Point in a given day, it is lost at the start of the next day.
