Equipment Manufacturers

For equipment that doesn’t have a manufacturer designated in their name or description already, you can either stick with the ‘generic’ manufacturer, which represents one of the ‘big’ manufacturing corporations (Human Weaponry Examples: H&K, Colt, Armalite, IMI, Kalishnikov, etc).  Doing so means you pay the cost listed for the item with no changes.  OR you can go buy it from a smaller, more specialized manufacturer, and gain the benefits of doing so.  Buying from these smaller manufacturers is more expensive, but you get a higher-quality product with added benefits depending on the manufacturer.

Additionally, this section also includes templates applied to equipment bought from specific nonhuman species.  These templates can only be applied to equipment listed under the Generic Gear section.

CALENGIL DOMINION MANUFACTURERS

Calengil Template
The Calengil Dominion would like to have others think of them as one of the great powers. Their ongoing war against the Chrysoari certainly seems to help their self-image in this matter, and the cheaply-made goods they shovel onto the market en-masse could fool the unwary into thinking this as well. Selling high volumes at low prices, they compete against the more advanced manufacturers though sheer amount of product. Unfortunately, these products are not the best in existence – but they are cheap. Any generic item may be made ‘Calengil’ by adjusting it in the following fashion:

  • Increase the weight of the item by 20%. Calengil make up for their limited understanding of advanced materials science by piling on bulk.
  • If the item uses an power pack or energy cell reduce its maximum effective charge (number of hours of use, number of uses, etc) by one.
  • Decrease the cost of the item by 20%
  • If the item is a weapon, it has a 50% chance of breaking on an attack roll that results in a natural 1. The nature of this break varies with weapon, but in general it requires an hour and a DC20 Mechanics check to fix.

TERRAN ALLIANCE MANUFACTURERS

BOOKER TACTICAL [120% Cost]

Booker Tactical is a British company with several facilities in England, founded in the early 2000s to meet the needs of the United Kingdom’s Olympic rifle and pistol teams.  Naturally, they soon began to do business with other groups that need highly accurate ranged weapons.  In recent years, Booker Tactical has branched out into the fencing industry with the rise in popularity of the fencing arts.  Furthermore, they maintain a small line of armor they manufacture on an as-requested basis.  Booker Tactical is occasionally contracted by special operations groups within the Terran Alliance Armed Forces for equipment, but the vast majority of the company’s business comes from civilians (especially hunters), law enforcement, and athletes.

Booker Tactical’s ranged weapons are produced to be accurate at higher-than-normal ranges – however this increased accuracy comes at the expense of some ammunition capacity, making them excellent for target shooters and snipers.  Their lines of vibroweapons and mundane melee weapons have a reputation for being able to pierce defenses, but the damage they inflict is lessened by their smaller profile.  Armor produced by Booker Tactical is by custom order only, as their armorsmiths prefer to tailor the armor to each individual buyer – allowing for a greater range of motion which in turn means better protection, even if it does come at the cast of some actual armor plating.

BENEFITS

  • Ranged Weapons – Booker Tactical’s ranged weapons always have the Accurate property.  Their ammunition capacity is one-half of what would be standard for that weapon.
  • Melee Weapons – Booker Tactical’s melee weapons are considered Mastercraft, providing a +1 untyped bonus to attack.  The damage dealt by the weapon is one die size smaller than normal for it (for example, vibrorapiers do 2d4 damage instead of 2d6).
  • Armor – Booker Tactical’s armor as a Max Dexterity bonus +2 higher than normal for that armor.  The Armor bonus the armor provides to Reflex defense is decreased by 1.  However, Booker Tactical armor on the open market is considered Rare, and unless a used set is refitted for its new owner (1,000 credits and 3 days to refit), the Max Dexterity bonus only increases by +1.

SAMPLE ITEMS

  • Booker Tactical Armatus – Battle Armor (+7 Armor bonus to REF Defense, +2 Equipment bonus to FORT Defense, +4 Max Dexterity bonus)
  • Booker Tactical Bellator – Vibrorapier (2d4 damage instead of 2d6, mastercraft)
  • Booker Tactical Venator – Black Powder Pistol (2d4 damage, single-shot capacity, Accurate, often ships with extended barrel)

CRUSADER ARMORY (Crociato Armeria) [140% Cost, Requires automatic weapons permit for civilians]

An Italian weapons manufacturer that would be a relative unknown were it not for the popularity (and infamy) of their flagship product – the Crusader Machine Pistol – Crociato Armeria is based out of Milan, Italy.  They’re a family-run business dating back to the 1970s, when they began as a family of hobbyists working on modifying their guns.  Eventually this led to a small gunsmithing operation, until 2011 when Lucio Dioli developed the product that would make their name become synonymous with the words "rapid fire."  While pistol-sized submachine guns had been around for decades, Lucio developed a unique combination of gas-operated action, accurized hardware, and recoil compensators that created a highly accurate – and lethal – pistol-sized submachine gun.  Dubbed the Crusader Machine Pistol, it was entered in a competition to choose a new sidearm for the Italian armed forces, but it lost.  However, it did not go unnoticed, and Crusader was approached by Sicurezza Aerea Blu (Blue Air Security), an Italian PMC who specialized in corporate security.

Sicurezza Aerea Blu signed a lucrative contract with Crusader for them to manufacture the weapon for their security officers, sending the small gunsmithing operation into the realm of mass production.  Crusader would remain a relatively unknown company, however, until the Belt Rebellion – when Sicurezza Aerea Blu personnel were filmed numerous times unleashing hailstorms of fire from their pistol-sized weapons upon TAAF personnel and miners alike.  Consequently, the weapon’s reputation is…mixed at best.  Crusader was undeterred, and remains in business to this day (unlike Sicurezza Aerea Blu), primarily through shrewd business sense and contracts with several nations on Earth.  They don’t do much business with civilians due to their focus on delivering weapons that provide high rates of fire, but they are known to sell their products to individuals with the proper licenses.

BENEFITS

  • Ranged Weapons – Crusader Armory’s weapons always have a fire rate of "S, A".  Consequently, they do not manufacture weapons that have an ammunition capacity of less than 10, though they do manufacture weapons that can have their ammunition capacity increased to 10 or greater through modifications (which are then installed on the weapon as part of the manufacture process).  Crusader Armory’s weapons never have the Inaccurate property, and have an availability of Military due to their ability to fire in fully-automatic mode.

SAMPLE ITEMS

  • Crusader Machine Pistol – It’s on the Human Weapons page.  Basically, it’s a Crusader-made Slugthrower SMG.

DECKER ARSENAL [4000% Cost plus an additional 500 credit fee]

Based out of Dallas, Texas, in the Southern States of America, Decker Arsenal is loathed amongst gun-control advocates and revered by fans of…obscenely large firepower.  Owned and operated by the Decker Family, the arsenal has been in operation since the mid-20th century, though it began as a gunsmith shop.  Originally they built unique weapons for themselves for fun on the side, and every now and then they’d receive orders for custom manufactures.  Their latest flagship product, the Ordinatus, began as one of those custom manufactures that suddenly everyone wanted.  Decker’s infamy stems from the fact that according to Alliance law (and prior United States law), they technically don’t manufacture ‘normal firearms,’ they manufacture ‘destructive devices.’  This is because every gun that Decker has produced has always had a bore larger than .50 inches or 12.7mm.  They have a reputation for making weapons that are usually seen as just too high-power to be practical, but someone will always find a use for them – either as a show piece, for hunting, or for more dubious purposes.  Consequently, Decker Arsenal’s weapons are usually not easy to find ammunition for, since they use rare or custom-made calibers, but the popularity of the Ordinatus means that its unique 21x60mm rocket-assisted ammunition is somewhat more easy to find.

Decker’s weapons are all handcrafted pieces made to order, making them pretty much impossible to find on the open market, but highly accurate.  The Decker family frowns upon computer-assisted aiming and ‘fancy technology,’ and never installs a smartgun system in any weapon they manufacture (though it can be installed after-market).  Furthermore, Decker weapons are known to be a danger to their own users if the firer is not capable of keeping the weapon’s recoil under control.

BENEFITS

  • Ranged Weapons – All of Decker Arsenal’s weapons have the Accurate property, and therefore are never Inaccurate.  Due to the high standards of manufacture and the handcrafted nature, they are also considered Mastercraft, providing a +1 untyped bonus to attack.  The high caliber of the weapons functionally provides an additional die of damage to the weapon.  However, this higher-caliber round increases the cost and difficulty of obtaining ammunition – all ammunition for a Decker Arsenal weapon costs three times what the ammunition would normally cost, and is considered Rare.  Furthermore, the larger size of the rounds functionally halves the ammunition capacity of the weapon (to a minimum of 1 round).  Additionally, the high caliber round imposes a penalty on the weapon – users with a  Strength score lower than 12 cannot use the weapon, they automatically miss on their attack, take 4d6 damage, and move -2 steps on the condition track due to self-inflicted injuries from the recoil.  This condition track penalty is a persistent condition, treatable with a DC 15 Treat Injury check made to Perform Surgery, and usually manifests in the form of broken wrists, cracked skulls, fractures to arms, and so on.  All Decker handguns are considered Large size, and should not be fired one-handed. All Decker weapons also require a 500 Credit fee to cover the cost of the Destructive Device tax that the Arsenal must pay each time they manufacture one of the weapons.  Functionally, their availability is Military, but this represents more of the license fee that a purchaser must pay to legally own the weapon, and less of an actual restriction on the weapon.  As such, the Knowledge [Bureaucracy] check to obtain a license for a Decker Arsenal weapon is only a DC 10, rather than the DC 20 normally associated with Military availability, however the license cost is still 20% of the weapon being purchased.

SAMPLE ITEMS

  • Decker Arsenal Obliterator – Large Slugthrower Revolver (3d8 Piercing Damage, 3-round Cylinder, Mastercraft, Accurate, Decker STR Requirements [see above]).  Intended for use as a hunting sidearm, this humongous revolver fires the .505 Gibbs cartridge, which has led to a resurgence in popularity of this round.
