Alpha Centauri A c (Habitable Zone) – “Alpha Prime”

  • Alpha Prime is the location of the Terran Alliance’s first extrasolar colony.  The Alpha Prime Colony as it is still known is located on the largest archipelago of islands on this watery planet, which teems with native plant and animal life.  The combination of high gravity, dense atmosphere, and limited land surface limits the possibility for large-scale colonization at this time, but the colony is steadily becoming a popular tourist destination – at least for those who can afford the cost of the interstellar trip.
  • Terrestrial Medium (18874 Km Diameter)
  • High Gravity (1.5g)
  • Dense Breathable Atmosphere (~2 Atmospheres (202 Kilospascals, 1520 mmHg), 22% Oxygen, 70% Nitrogen, 8% Other (mostly inert) Gasses)
    • BOON [Oxygen-Breathers] – HIGH OXYGEN CONTENT: Once acclimated to the environment (see HAZARD [Oxygen-Breathers] – NITROGEN NARCOSIS, below), Oxygen-breathing species find it extremely easy to adapt to the gravity of this world thanks to the higher amount of oxygen in the air – effectively this gives them the benefits that normally require months of training in low-oxygen environments provide.  Characters originating from a world with between 0.5 and 1.49g gravity suffer none of the normal penalties they would suffer on a higher-gravity world.  Characters originating from a world whose gravity is 1.5g or higher instead receive a +5 bonus to Climb, Endurance, Jump, and Strength checks.
    • HAZARD [Oxygen-Breathers] – NITROGEN NARCOSIS: For the first few days after arriving at Alpha Prime, oxygen-breathing species essentially suffer from a mild case of nitrogen narcosis.  Symptoms include mild impairment of performance of unpracticed tasks, mildly impaired reasoning, and possible mild euphoria – all similar to being mildly intoxicated (One Martini of narcosis).  Functionally, in game terms, this is treated as a persistent -1 step on the Condition track.  It can only be removed by spending 72 hours acclimating to the increased barometric pressure.
      • Species Affected: Acr, Dwellers (High and Low), Hand of Action (all castes), Hand of Temperance, Humans, Risantha, Ta, Xylat
    • NOTE [PROXIMANS]: Due to their innate ability to handle differing atmospheric pressures, Proximans suffer no additional effects beyond the normal they suffer from high Nitrogen concentrations.
  • Rugged Geology
  • Dead Volcanism
  • Very Wet Hydrosphere (91% [Large Islands and Archipelagos])
  • 10C Average Temperature (Variability: -15C to 35C)
  • Very Abundant Biosphere (Very Advanced Complexity)
  • 2 Moons, 3 Moonlets
    • Alpha Centauri A c A – Barely large enough to be considered a moon and not a moonlet, this moon is notable for having thick layers of water and other ices surrounding its small, rocky core.
      • Icy
      • Fine (140 Miles Diameter)
      • Microgravity (0.1g or less)
      • Vacuum Atmosphere
      • Standard Geology

      • No Surface Hydrosphere, Thin Subsurface Oceans
      • Very Scarce Biosphere (Very Simple Complexity) – Microbial life has been discovered in the thin layers of water found in between layers of ice on this moon.  The water is kept liquid via tidal stress heating of the moon’s substrate rocks.
